THE PIONEER’S CLUB
On December 8, 2015, a team met to pray, plan and prepare to develop a senior ministry.
For some time, there were conversations among our congregants regarding the need for a senior ministry. This was acknowledged by our past priest, The Rev. Willie Davila, and as a result a team was formed to discuss the possibilities and to determine if a senior ministry was feasible. A survey was take and the results indicated that a senior ministry was needed.
Officers were elected and a naming contest was done to select a name for the ministry. On February 9, 2016, the Pioneer Club Senior’s Ministry was launched. There were 21 people in attendance. Today we average about 60 in attendance.
The goal of the Pioneer’s Club is to minister to our seniors in our church and the community. We provide an environment where they are acknowledged and recognized. We tap into their talents, experiences and wisdom. We meet on the second Tuesday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. We have structured meetings which include business, announcements, presentations, lunch and a raffle. Birthdays are celebrated with a gift from the club. Members often play games such as scrabble, dominoes, card games, board games, etc. All these functions are provided free of cost to our seniors.
Other activities include day cruises, supporting C.R.O.S. (Christians Reaching Out to Society) ministry food bank and donating needed items to residents of the Lord’s Place and Imagination Kids Learning Center.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to create, grow and maintain a structured program for the seniors within our Parish, thus affording them the opportunity for social interaction and community involvement while utilizing their wisdom and talents to assist seniors with mutual challenges.
